Carbon dioxide, methane and dinitro oxide are 3 (three) of 5 (five) kind of green house gasses that are very important as cause of global warming. One of the gas emission sources is a ruminant livestock production process. Emission of Methane and Carbon dioxide resulted by fermentation process of microbe in digestive system ruminant livestock. Composting process of livestock feces has been giving a contribution to dinitro oxide product in atmosphere.
Indonesia has been working hard to accomplish a sustainable cattle and buffalo meat self-sufficiency in 2014 so a cattle and buffalo livestock production will more intensive in the next years. Population of cattle and buffalo in prediction will increase in the next years so the program of cattle and buffalo meat self-sufficiency potentially will contribute as a significant contribution of green house gasses.
His Excellency, President of Republic Indonesia has made a policy to reduce carbon emission until 20 or 40% with the aids of by International institution in 2020. This policy showed that My President gave a big attention to reduce of green house gases in Indonesia. Therefore, the efforts to reduce a green house gas emission from livestock sub sector by mitigation and adaptation process are an important aspect for Indonesia.
In order to give a big impact, a green house gas trouble solving must be done in a wider scope, together with another country. Therefore, collaboration in regional and global level network needs to be done. Actually, the mitigation and adaptation efforts of green house gases from livestock sub sector have been started and done in a small scale and scatter in many provinces in Indonesia. Indonesia has a National Action Planning (NAP) and Province Action Planning (PAP) in Province Level to reduce a green house gases emission.
This book writen by some scientist from some institutions who very understand a problem of green house gas production from livestock sub sector in Indonesia, as a result of “The International Workshop on Data Inventory and Mitigation on Carbon Emission and Nitrogen Cycling from Livestock in Indonesia”. All of them will give current information of data inventory that they have done in their institution so we will get a common description condition in Indonesia.
